| Welcome to our genealogy area. A constantly evolving work in
progresss, this area features information about our family tree,
a historical timeline, downloads, and links to other genealogical
sites.
Even as a child I was curious about my ancestors, where they
came from, what motivated them and where they fit in our nation's
history. The pursuit of genealogy answered these questions while
posing many new ones. Genealogy allows me to indulge my love
of history, writing, research and travel. And what is more satisfying
than a good mystery especially if it involves your own family.
Fortunately, I have a loving wife who tolerates my eccentricities
and always encourages me to persevere.
After nearly fifteen years "doing" genealogy, I am
still searching and still learning. The following are some elusive
ancestors who have successfully escaped detection so far. Any
clues? Please email me: randy@gawer.org
Elusive ancestors on my Father's side:
Carl Ludwig Gawer was born 04 January 1875 in Stolp, Pommern,
Prussia. He departed Bremen Germany on January 15th, 1907 abord
the Kaiser Wilhelm Der Grosse. He was 32 when he arrived at
Ellis Island New York on January 23, 1907. From Ellis Island
he apparently departed for Portland Oregon, although he had
a bother Albert born April 1872, and a sister Adeline Caroline
born 09 October 1877 living with him the Bronx.
Carl was a tailor and his bother Albert a saddler. He
was married to the fomer Anna Sophie Louise Frerichs. She
was born 09 October
1878 in Bohnenburg, Neidersachsen, Germany, and died 14 November
1954 in Portland Oregon. At this time I am unware of their marriage
date. They had three children he died 28 April 1933 in Portland,
Oregon.
